About Jared’s REAL Food

Jared’s Real Food (JRF) is a regenerative, holistic and no-till farm located in Lakeside, CA. JRF was established in 2011 to promote health and optimal living for everyone. We do that by growing top quality nutrient dense vegetable, fruit, and herb varieties. We are a small, people-centered, ecologically conscious farm that produces living food which is fresh, nourishing, healing, and sustaining.

We believe that soil health directly affects the health of individuals, therefore our main focus is always on the health of our soil. We are a no-till farming operation, implementing many old-fashion and artisan techniques in our farming strategy. We never use toxic chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, or synthetic fertilizers of any kind on any our plants and we never will.

At the farm, we grow over 35 different heirloom and specialty varieties that taste great and leave the body satisfied. We make compost on site for our plants and also amend our land with compost produced locally in Ramona, CA. We work alongside nature to build healthy ecosystems in which trees, plants, wildlife and healthy bacteria thrive.

“We are in the redemption business: healing the land, healing the food, healing the economy, and healing the culture.” – Joel Salatin

Why eat Jared’s Real Food?

For the Community

  • CSA cooperation encourages a direct relationship with the farmer including how, where, when, and by whom your food is grown.

  • CSA keeps food dollars in the local community and help contribute to the development and maintenance of regional food systems.

  • CSA provides farmers and growers with a fair return on their labor: cost of seeds, farm supplies and labor expenses are all included in the program.

  • Eliminating the middle-man means more profit ends up in the growers pocket, which is reinvested directly into the health of local soil rather than maintaining large “big-ag” cooperations.

For the Planet

  • No toxic pesticides, fertilizers or runoff which promotes healthy soil, water and wildlife for future generations.

  • CSA cooperation encourages ecosystem building and supports biodiversity on the farm. Diversity of plants attract and maintain a great deal of local wildlife at the farm including countless mammals, rodents, reptiles, amphibians, birds, and so many bugs!

  • CSA creates a sense of shared responsibility and stewardship of local land.

  • Less CO2 emissions from the energy required to package, refrigerate and transport produce across long distances.

  • Management of healthy nutrient cycling of the soil by maintaining the balance of elements like nitrogen, phosphorous, and methane. This means the soil will remain healthy and productive for future generations.

For your Health

  • Did you know that produce loses up to 50% of its nutritional value during transportation and storage in grocery stores?

  • Fresh food tastes better! CSA produce is minimally processed and sold to customers the day of harvest. This preserves aesthetic quality, nutrient-density and taste dramatically.

  • Eat seasonally! Nature has always provided the necessary nutrients for life to thrive. Our CSA list changes throughout the year and rotates with seasonal availability of produce. This ensures the freshest and healthiest seasonal produce will be eaten at the right time.

  • Try new foods! Increasing diversity and nutrient-density in your diet will increase overall health - sustainable energy levels, healthy gut bacteria, better sleep patterns, endless medicinal benefits, and our team swears it gives us super-powers!
